There seems to be the general belief that any account in arrears reported by any company will seriously impact any credit score/report regardless of the credit history of the individual. For example, my credit score is 830, I have several credit cards, a mortgage, lines of credit, student loans, etc. All have flawless records for the past 15 years. If I get into a fight with a utilities company over $200, and simply decide never to pay them, how badly can they actually hurt my score? Anybody have any concrete data out there?

I am currently 15,000 in debt and I have a really bad credit score, I recently got a second job because I want to move and apply to pharmacy school. By my calculations with the second job in a year I’ll have tow to three thousand left. I have a repossession on my credit as well that I am paying off. Will I be able to get an apartment and raise my credit score?

The only open accounts on my name are 3 student loans and i do not have to pay any of them until i graduate so i have never made a payment, or missed one.
What should my credit score be around?

I know you can get it free in the mail or over the phone.
I know you can get it free in the mail or over the phone.
But online with Equifax or Transunion(Canada), when you buy the instant credit report for $15(or however much it is), after you view it, do you have the option to see your credit score as well for the 7 or 8 dollars more? Or do you have to pay the whole $23 again to see your credit score?

I went to the bank yesterday to borrow $1,500 for medical expenses, and the loan officer informed me that he could only give me $1,000 because my credit score was a 590. This makes no sense to me. I have multiple credit accounts that have all been in good standing for the duration of their existence. I have never been late on any payment in my entire life. Then banker went on to enform me that my score might have been affected by my “inquiries”. Why is it a bad thing to apply for credit? I think this credit score crap is a bunch of $hit.
I do have a couple of maxed out credit cards, but personally do not see that as a bad thing. I pay the bills on time every month, so I’m keeping up my end of the bargain, why should that have a negative affect on my credit report.
See you guys answers back up my point. I don’t understand if I have a debt with a creditor and I fulfill my obligation to the debt what the heII is negative about that.

When I was 18 I got into trouble with too many credit cards and then collection for those cards. They have been paid off (or charged-off, as my report says) for over two years. Currently I have a mortgage and a few low-balance cards that I pay on time and there’s nothing outstandingly wrong with my history for the past two years, but my credit score hasn’t raised since I paid off all of the bad debt. Are there any ways to bring the score up?

Unfortunately, I opened 2 credit cards when I turned 18. I did not pay on time and went to a collection agency. Am now in my early to mid 20′s and paid everything I owe. My credit score is low and would love to know how to improve my credit score because of the foolish mistakes I made in the past.

My boyfriend is freaking about because his credit card payment was 3 days late (and the one time it was late before, his credit went down 100 points! We just recently checked his report). Will this late payment effect his score, or does it usually have to be a certain number of days late before they report it to the credit beuraus?
